BMW’s April Fool’s Joke Becomes Reality!

Ana sayfa / News

What started as a joke for BMW has officially transformed into a high-performance reality. The German automotive giant has decided to produce the BMW M3 Touring GT race car, which was originally introduced as an April Fool’s prank last year. Following overwhelming positive feedback from enthusiasts, this unique vehicle is finally hitting the race tracks.

A Station Wagon Built in Eight Months: BMW M3 Touring GT to Compete in SPX Class

This station wagon race car is scheduled to debut at the Nürburgring 24 Hours race in May. Thanks to massive fan support, the company managed to get the vehicle race-ready in just eight months.

The vehicle is a powerhouse under the skin, sharing its technical foundation with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Beneath the hood lies a 590-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six BMW engine. The most striking difference, however, is in its exterior design; the car features a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) outer shell that mimics the station wagon body style.

From Sketch to Track: The Journey of the M3 Touring GT

The foundations for the project were laid during the initial launch of the M3 Touring in 2022. Two years later, professional sketches were created for the April 1, 2025 prank. After receiving significant backing, the project was officially greenlit in August, and the development process kicked off in September.

The vehicle, which underwent testing last month, will compete in the SPX class, distinguishing it from BMW’s other standard racing models. Following the race, the company plans to take this one-of-a-kind machine on an extensive promotional tour.

It’s always exciting to see automotive manufacturers listen to their community. Seeing a station wagon tackle such a grueling track is truly remarkable. What do you think about this? Does a prank-turned-racecar represent the ultimate fan service? Share your thoughts in the comments!
